CLUAA is an urbanism and architecture studio in Chicago whose focus is the production of space at the intersection of architecture, landscape and infrastructure with a focus on how architectural design engages with the natural and synthetic systems of the city. It is committed to executing projects of the highest quality through design strategies that deploy landscape and architectural motifs to generate new combinations (formal, material and programmatic) between interior and exterior space. The firm’s urban work explores the sites and spaces of infrastructure and conceives a city’s landscape, transportation and natural resources as latent sites for collective space that yield new ways to live, work and recreate in the city. The firm pursues a multi-faceted practice that includes private and public design projects, research, exhibitions and speculative work. CLUAA was founded in 2008 by Clare Lyster and was formerly known as the Clare Lyster Studio.
